The record is finally broken. His goal against Numancia put him at 307 goals, and his two goals yesterday against Gijon put him at 309  to break the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano’s record.

Raul Madrid breaks the record

'Raul Madrid' breaks the record

I don’t know how I can put into words how great this accomplishment is. He was already the leading goal scorer in UEFA Champions league history, and now he breaks the record of arguably the greatest footballer that ever lived. He oozes class both on and off the pitch. He’s been an example for all footballers. A true professional. He is a symbol for Madrid; a loyal servant, a hero and a legend. On top of that he is one of the best forwards in European history. Even though he is in the latter years of his career, and only a shadow of his former self; he continues to be a leader and score goals.

He was my childhood idol, and still nothing makes me happier on the football field (other than seeing Real Madrid lifting trophies) than to see Raul score. I only hope that when Raul is retired, we can have a young successor who can be half as great as he was. It’s very rare to see someone like Raul starting his career at the age 0f 17, and continuing at the same club his whole life. A legend in every sense of the word.

The Angel of Madrid. El Capitan. A moving compilation of some of his goals from his debut at age 17 and onward:
